Homeschoolers may sign up and take the SAT test at any age. To take the SAT as a homeschooler, you must obtain a copy of the SAT registration booklet. You can do this by going to your local public high school's guidance office and requesting a copy from the secretary. Or, you can call College Board and ask that they mail you one. If your homeschooler is over 13, you may also register online.

The SAT is offered one Saturday most months between October and June. Not all schools offer the SAT during every test date. Check the official SAT site or the registration booklet for exact dates and locations. College Board offers a few Sunday test dates for students who cannot take the test on Saturdays due to religious reasons.

Students must arrive at the test site before 8:00 a.m. All registered students MUST have a photo ID, such as a driver's license, a passport, or a state-issued ID. State IDs can be obtained at the Department of Motor Vehicles and cost about $5 in Maryland. The test lasts until around 1:00 p.m.

Find out more about College Board's NEW SAT Identification Policy.

Parents are not allowed in the test rooms. Students should check their registration material to be sure of what they may and may not bring into a test room, including the type of calculator that is allowed for the math portion. Students can bring snacks, but they will be left outside the door until there is a break.

As of September 2012, the SAT costs $50. Additional fees apply for late registration and registration by phone. College Board offers fee waivers to homeschoolers who meet income eligibility requirements. Talk with your local high school's guidance counselor for more information on obtaining a waiver.

The SAT Homeschool code is 970000 for all students.

Register for the SAT directly with College Board.
